The 7-Day Hour Back Challenge

Seven tasks on work you were doing anyway. By Sunday you will have taken back four and a half hours.

Day1

Rewrite the email you have been avoiding

Pick the one email sitting in your drafts or your head since yesterday — the difficult one. Paste the context into any AI assistant and ask it for three versions: direct, diplomatic, and short. Send one. The point is not the email. The point is discovering that the blank page was the whole delay.

End the day holding: One sent email that had been stuck for a day or more.

Day2

Turn a 40-minute meeting into a 6-line summary

Record or type up the notes from your next meeting. Ask AI for: decisions taken, owners, deadlines, and open questions — nothing else. Send it to the room within ten minutes of the meeting ending. You will become the person whose summaries people actually read.

End the day holding: A meeting summary circulated the same hour.

Day3

Make the deck you would normally postpone

Take an existing document — a report, a proposal, a set of numbers — and ask AI to structure it as a ten-slide narrative with one message per slide. Do not ask it to design. Ask it to argue. You supply the judgement, it supplies the scaffolding.

End the day holding: A slide outline with one clear message per slide.

Day4

Break a spreadsheet task you have been doing by hand

Find the repetitive thing you do in Excel or Google Sheets every week. Describe the columns you have and the answer you want, and ask AI for the formula. Test it on ten rows before you trust it on a thousand.

End the day holding: One working formula replacing a manual step.

Day5

Prepare for a conversation that matters

Appraisal, client call, salary discussion, difficult feedback. Give AI the situation and ask it to play the other person — sceptical, not agreeable. Argue with it three times. Walk into the real conversation having already had it.

End the day holding: Three rehearsed objections and your answer to each.

Day6

Build one thing that keeps working after you close the tab

A checklist, a template, a standard reply, an onboarding note. Something your team uses next month without you being in the room. This is the difference between using AI and installing it.

End the day holding: One reusable template saved where your team can find it.

Day7

Count what you took back

Add up the six days. Write down the number of minutes and what you did with them. Post it, or send it to one colleague who thinks AI is hype. Your certificate unlocks when you log this.

End the day holding: Your minutes total and a note to one person.
